今日のニュース：Indian State an Example of Successful Plastic Ban

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said his government’s goal is  to  make India completely free of single-use plastics by 2022. Single-use plastics are products designed to be used only once and then thrown away, these include plastic bags and products used for eating and drinking.

Back in 1998, the state of Sikkim started to ban plastic bags. There were fines if people were caught carrying plastic bags. Major public education were helpful in turning people against plastic bag use. Many people have willingly followed the plastic bag ban.

インドの首相は2022年までに一度使ったら捨ててしまうプラスチック製品の使用をインドからなくすことを目標にしています。製品には、プラスチックの袋、飲み物や食べ物を入れる製品も含まれます。

20年以上も前にプラスチックの袋を禁止した州がインドにありました。もし袋を使用しているところが見つかれば罰金を払わなければいけませんでした。プラスチック袋を使用することに対しての教育が使用禁止への成功につながったとのことです。人々は喜んでそのルールに従いました。

日本でもスーパーに行く際は、エコバッグを持って買い物をする方がほとんどですよね。ただ、コンビニやドラッグストアとなるとレジ袋を使っている方も多いと思います。最近は紙製のストローを使用するお店があったり、マイボトルを利用することでペットボトルを買わない選択をする方もいます。個人レベルで徐々にできることから始めていけるといいですね。
